Local Lifestyle

The laid-back, outdoorsy lifestyle of Larkspur draws active residents who enjoy the ability to walk or bike downtown while maintaining access both to the excitement of downtown San Francisco and the remote solitude of the mountains. The mild, sunny climate draws residents outdoors year-round to enjoy hiking, biking, and walkable downtown.  Locals enjoy the finest in local goods, from organic produce and fresh seafood or handcrafted furnishings and high-end fashions from the area's luxury boutiques. The upscale living and down-to-earth neighbors make this area a peaceful and relaxing place to call home.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Excellent local shopping abounds at the Marin Country Mart, an outdoor collection of shops, restaurants, and local businesses offering some of the finest shopping north of San Francisco. Grab a pastry from the Rustic Bakery, an award-winning bakehouse offering organic local bread, pastries, and coffee. Their sourdough flatbreads are a firm favorite among locals and visitors alike. Pick up the freshest local produce, fruits, and nuts, along with artisan cheeses and baked goods at the Saturday Farmer's Market, where local growers bring their finest offerings from the nearby countryside. The Mart is also the place to be for local events, such as community movie nights every Friday or live music during the summers. Dine at Hog Island Oyster Co., with sweeping views of the bay and Mount Tam. The restaurant is especially popular during Happy Hour, when great cocktails, oysters, and small plates draw in locals on weekdays.

Grab a drink at the hand-sculpted wood bar at Farmshop Marin, where you can watch the chef prepare your meals in the open kitchen. Fitness studios and great local boutiques make this area a one-stop shop for all your needs. It's the perfect place to meet up with friends and neighbors and enjoy a sunny day in Larkspur. Downtown also offers a wonderful blend of upscale shopping and dining. Try Farm House Local for farm-to-table brunches carefully crafted by Chef David Monson. The cozy, dog-friendly patio is an especially popular place to catch up with friends and enjoy excellent dishes.

Things to Do

Head downtown to the prized Lark Theater, an art-deco cinema built in 1936. Fully restored in 2003, it's a great place to watch independent films with friends. Explore the beautiful outdoors in Baltimore Canyon Preserve, easily accessible from Larkspur's residential neighborhoods, where incredible hiking trails lead into a secluded canyon with a cascading waterfall.

Dawn Falls is especially beautiful after winter and spring rains, where the 30-foot cascade tumbles into the canyon. Towering redwoods provide shade, while diverse woodlands and chaparral create a varied landscape for miles of exploration. From here, hikers can access trails that go all the way to the northern slopes of Mount Tamalpais, where unmatched views reward those who make the climb. Take the Golden Gate Ferry across the bay on sunny weekends to explore neighboring enclaves and quaint getaways.
